About me

Hi, my name is Marion Di Laurenzio. I was born on March 23, 1972, and grew up in the picturesque village of Hettlingen, in the Zurich wine region. From an early age, drawing, painting, and creative design were among my favorite activities. I have always been fascinated by the play of light in all its variations – as well as by the vibrant shapes and colors of glass. The beauty and versatility of this material have captivated me since childhood.

Visits to renowned glass studios, such as those on the island of Murano in Italy or at Glasi Hergiswil in Switzerland, have always been unforgettable experiences that continuously reignited my passion for this fascinating craft.

My first hands-on experience with glass – particularly glass fusing – came in the mid -1990s through hobby workshops in Oerlikon. Among my first creations was a handmade chessboard. Unfortunately, I was unable to pursue this newfound passion for many years. It wasn’t until 2020, nearly 30 years later, that I felt a renewed desire to work with glass.

Today, I create unique, handcrafted glass pieces in my studio in Bonstetten with great passion and precision. I continuously expand my skills by attending courses with renowned and highly experienced glass artists, which allows me to explore new techniques and develop my creative expression.

My heartfelt thanks go to my mentor Erna Piechna-Sowersby, to Narcissus Quagliata, and to many other inspiring artists who have supported and guided me on my artistic journey.

Glass Fusing

I create my artworks using the fascinating technique of glass fusing. Colored glass pieces are cut, layered, and then heated in a kiln to around 700–900 °C (1290–1650 °F) until they melt and bond together. Depending on the temperature, the glass can become perfectly smooth or keep a textured, layered look. Often, I fire the glass several times – to shape bowls, add details, or bring out the colors even more. This process lets me craft unique, handmade pieces – from small decorative objects to bowls, wall art, or garden accents – each one with its own character.

Materials & Techniques

I love working with glass from Bullseye Glass Co. in Portland, Oregon. Known worldwide for its vibrant colors, excellent quality, and reliability, Bullseye produces glass specifically designed for kilnforming techniques like fusing and casting. Using this glass gives me the freedom to create artworks that are not only expressive and colorful but also durable – pieces you can enjoy for years to come.
